Asbestos removal cost guide for Sydney (2026)

Short answers with sources. All figures are third-party guide prices, not quotes.

How much does asbestos removal cost in Sydney?

Prices are only fixed after a site inspection. Sydney removalists publish guide ranges like these for non-friable (bonded) work: about $1,500–$3,500 for a small area under 20 m² such as a bathroom, laundry or eaves; $3,500–$8,000 for 20–50 m²; and $8,000–$18,000 for a fibro roof or full cladding (source: Gabrael, 2026 price guide). These are one contractor's indicative prices, not a quote.

Why does friable asbestos cost more?

Friable asbestos needs a Class A licence and more controls, such as enclosure and air monitoring. One Sydney guide estimates $100–$150 per m² for friable against $50–$80 per m² for standard non-friable removal (getitaway.com.au).

What changes the price?

The type of asbestos, how much there is, access (height, narrow sides, scaffolding), where it is (roof, wall, subfloor), testing, air monitoring and licensed disposal fees.

Is testing included?

Sometimes. Some removalists include NATA lab testing and a clearance certificate and some charge separately, so ask for an itemised quote.

How many quotes should I get?

Comparing itemised quotes is sensible. We send your request to one removalist so you aren't flooded with calls, and you're free to get other quotes too.
