Sydney Asbestos Quotes

Asbestos disposal in Sydney: where and how

Where householders can lawfully dispose of asbestos in Sydney, how to package it, and when WasteLocate applies.

Where can I dump asbestos in Sydney?

Only at a landfill licensed to accept it. The NSW EPA lists Sydney facilities including Elizabeth Drive Landfill (Kemps Creek), Bingo Eastern Creek, Horsley Park, Kimbriki (Terrey Hills), Lucas Heights and Wetherill Park (NSW EPA list). Always phone first; many need 24 hours' notice.

How do I package asbestos for the tip?

The EPA requires non-friable asbestos to be securely packaged, friable asbestos in a sealed container, contaminated soil wetted down, and transport in a covered, leak-proof part of the vehicle (NSW EPA). Facilities set their own wrapping rules, so ask when you book.

What is WasteLocate?

If you transport more than 100 kg or 10 m² of asbestos waste, the person transporting it must make a consignment in the EPA's WasteLocate system (WasteLocate).

Can asbestos go in my bin or a skip?

No. The EPA says it's illegal to put asbestos in kerbside bins or in an uncovered or unapproved skip (source). If you pay someone to remove it, ask for the disposal receipt; as owner of the waste you're responsible for lawful disposal.
