How much does an asbestos test cost in NSW?
asbestos.nsw.gov.au says lab testing at a NATA-accredited laboratory costs between $40 and $140 per sample (source). A site visit to take samples usually costs extra.
What do Sydney providers publicly charge?
Published examples (October 2026, check current prices): Airsafe lists $110 per sample including GST with next-business-day results (Airsafe); EHO Consulting lists from $40 + GST per sample on a 5-day turnaround (EHO); HazWreck lists a $200 site visit plus $80 per sample, ex GST (HazWreck). Who should take the sample?
asbestos.nsw.gov.au recommends using a professional: an occupational hygienist or a licensed asbestos assessor. Results should be on a NATA-endorsed Certificate of Analysis (source).
Is a test worth it before renovating?
Yes, if the house was built before 1990 and the work will cut, drill or remove old sheeting, tiles or flooring. A test result also lets removalists quote accurately.
