Asbestos clearance certificate (NSW)
Ask for a clearance certificate before anyone re-enters the work area.
What is an asbestos clearance certificate?
After licensed removal, the work area is inspected. Once it's free of visible asbestos (and air monitoring is below 0.01 fibres/ml where required), a clearance certificate is issued (SafeWork NSW).
Who issues it?
For Class A (friable) work, an independent licensed asbestos assessor must carry out air monitoring and the clearance inspection. For Class B work, the clearance can be done by an independent licensed assessor or a competent person (SafeWork NSW).
Do I need one for a home job?
For any licensed job, ask for it in writing as part of the quote, along with the SafeWork notification and the disposal receipt. Builders, buyers and councils often ask to see it later.
How do I check the removalist and assessor are licensed?
Search their name or licence number on Service NSW's licence check (Service NSW). See also how to check a licence.
