Can I stay in my house during removal?

The licensed removalist must set up barriers and asbestos warning signs and keep people not involved out of the work area (SafeWork NSW). For outdoor work such as a fence or shed, many people stay home with windows closed. For indoor friable work, expect to be out of the affected area until clearance.

Will my neighbours be told?

Yes. Before licensed work starts, the removalist must notify the owner and occupier and the immediate neighbours about the work and when it will begin (SafeWork NSW).

How much notice is there?

The removalist must notify SafeWork NSW 5 calendar days before licensed removal starts, so most jobs are booked at least a week ahead (SafeWork NSW).

When is it safe to go back in?

After a clearance inspection confirms the area is free of visible asbestos. See clearance certificates.

We pass your request to independent removalists who say they hold a current SafeWork NSW licence, and you should always check a removalist's licence yourself before you engage them.
